大型会議及活动 227 Abstract: On 06 November 2021, the public forum on marine biodiversity was successful organized at HKUST. It echoed with the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) and UN Climate Change Conference (COP26). This public forum was held in a hybrid mode and attracted more than 200 participants. Prof. Peiyuan Qian, from the Department of Ocean Science at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, highlighted a grim fact about the decreasing of biodiversity over years and emphasized the necessity and urgency to protect our biodiversity. Prof. Karen Q. Cheung, from UNESCO Hong Kong Association, talked about the recent conferences on biodiversity (COP15) and climate change (COP26), and advocated for all of us to protect biodiversity and our environment. Mr. Eddie Ng, GBS, JP, former secretary for education, emphasized on the significance of marine biodiversity to human beings, and encouraged the public and school to better appreciate oceans and learn more about biodiversity through visiting the conserved marine parks in Hong Kong. Another five invited speakers shared with us their professional insights about the different aspects of biodiversity, from marine fishes to marine bacteria.
