49 Hong Kong Branch Scientist Professor Jianwen Qiu and his team discovered a new species of coral and two new species of sea slugs (see the picture below for the nomination) from Hong Kong waters. Hong Kong is rich in marine biodiversity and it is recorded about 6,000 species of marine life, accounting for 26% of the ones recorded in China waters. There are 98 species of coral reefs living in Hong Kong, but most have been discovered in other places. The "big cup tube star coral" and two "sea slugs" discovered by Professor Qiu's team are among the few new marine species discovered in Hong Kong waters. This discovery will inspire more young marine talents to devote themselves to marine research, to further expand marine resources in Hong Kong and to enhance marine conservation. Discover New Coral and Sea Slug Species in Hong Kong Waters 在香港水域发現珊瑚和海蛞蝓新物種 Prof. Jianwen Qiu 邱建文教授 Hong Kong Baptist University 香港浸会大学 Refer to /明报新闻
