103 intake students. He had found the path to his true love, if a few years later than expected, and soon arrived at HKAPA as a mature student. At last, he knew he was where he needed to be. His success grew quickly from his ability to apply himself to daily practice, and to never be ashamed to ask for help when it came to learning things he didn’t know. He was selected as one of the Best Singers in the First International Opera Exchange Masterclass in 2015, and has performed in multiple prestigious operas at HKAPA, with roles including: the title role in Don Giovanni, Harašta and Priest in The Cunning Little Vixen, Frank in Die Fledermaus, and Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. His interpretation of the iconic role of Bartolo in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro won him critical acclaim, and a reputation as a vibrant character in the opera. Today, Francis works full-time as an opera singer, classical voice teacher, and conductor, and is a music studio owner. Since September 2021, he has paid his good fortune forward by serving as Music Director of the HKUST choir and other local choirs around Hong Kong, where he is inspiring a new generation of music lovers. By giving back to his community, his love for his profession grows by the day, and he remains grateful for his unexpected journey.
