School of Humanities and Social Science Division of Social Science 202 AI for Social Innovation: Leveraging Chatbots to Combat Sexual Harassment Supervisor: GIETEL-BASTEN Stuart Arthur / SOSC Student: TSANG Chin Yung Virginia / COMP/CS Course: UROP1100, Fall UROP2100, Spring With an understanding of the landscapes of AI and social innovation from the previous UROP course series, this semester we worked on exploring technical capacities in AI and aspects of programming. We started by deciding on chatbots as a means to leverage sexual harassment issues, then designing the content and conversation flow of the conversation agent from literature reviews and systematic research in the past. At the same time, we compared various vendors on chatbot frameworks in terms of technical capacities and financials. With the functionalities and user friendliness that theMicrosoft Bot Composer Framework offered, it best supported our two main features of the chatbot: Documentation of sexual harassment events and Education. By the end of the project, we have created the Education section of the chatbot on the Composer, which includes different sub-conversations (sub-branches), and an additional chit-chat function that makes the chatbot response natural. Reconstructing Historical Lives from Demographic Data Supervisor: GIETEL-BASTEN Stuart Arthur / SOSC Student: JIAN Yu Kei / SENG Course: UROP1000, Summer In UROP1000, my job is data transcription, which is to transcript data of the Askham Bryan baptismal registers, the York St. Crux baptismal registers, and correct the transcription of the Linton-in-Cravenmarriage registers. Data entry involves carefully selecting key information from registers and entering it into excel tables. During this project period, I learned how the raw data looks like and how parishes in late 18th to early 19 th century registered the baptisms and marriages. I also learned methods of cleaning and processing raw data. Additionally, I conduct a simple study to find the relationship between gender, location and population movement. The followings are my reflections and findings.
