School of Humanities and Social Science Division of Social Science 209 China/Africa Links Project Supervisor: SAUTMAN Barry / SOSC Student: YIU Wing Kiu Hayley / GCS-SOSC Course: UROP1000, Summer China’s agricultural aid to Africa was initiated at the end of the 1950s. Over the past decade, the marketdriven agricultural technology transfer model has been applied by China to African agricultural assistance. On the other hand, due to various reasons such as insufficient agricultural infrastructure, lack of breeding capacity, and poor level of agricultural mechanization, the agricultural development and food production in Africa have been severely restricted. To this end, the Chinese government has cooperated with different organizations, such as Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), to help solve the food security crisis in African countries through food aid and other means. This paper aims to find out to what extend China has developed programs or participated in terms of designing agricultural skills for African countries. This paper focuses on the experience of FAO to find out what Chinese organizations or individuals have done in terms of transferring skills and training program. Understanding Experiences in Historical Environments Supervisor: TAM Kevin Kim-Pong / SOSC Student: CUI Boyi / EVMT Course: UROP1000, Summer This is a progress report of UROP 1000: Understanding Experiences in Historical Environments. Historical environments are meaningful for human society. Their maintenance and development rely on visitors. Return visitors are important because they revisit the sites and spread positive word-of-mouth. Revisit intention has been deeply discussed though some inconsistency persists. Revisit experiences have not attracted much attention. So far, we have collected studies of revisit intention and summarized them in a document. A questionnaire has been designed for both questions. The second half of this progress report is a reflection of my learning process. Extensive reading, reflection, effective communication, and software skills help me continue doing the project.
