HKUST PG Programs 2024-25 - AIS

School of SCIENCE 6 isd.hkust.edu.hk Division of Integrative Systems and Design The Division of Integrative Systems and Design holds a special and unique position in HKUST: our programs are uniquely cross-disciplinary and emphasize the confluence of functionality and form in the design of modern devices and services. The goal of our post-graduate programs are to promote and support cutting edge research that are user-aware, with explicit emphasis on the human component including design, ergonomics, and usability. Our faculty have a broad spectrum of research interests and backgrounds, ranging from embedded and integrative systems, communications, computer graphics and vision, interactive designs, architectural design, robotics, 3D printing, nanomaterials, optics and design methodology. Research Foci The Division’s main areas of focus are: Green and Sustainability Marine and Soft Robotics Human-centered Design Advanced Manufacturing and Material Facilities Our makerspaces, ISDworks! and ISDbase, are equipped with state-of-the-art prototyping equipment such as advanced 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, solar simulator, nanoimprint machine, electrochemical stations and robotic arm. Prototyping is a core part of the integrative systems design process, and therefore our students are encouraged to gain hands-on practice throughout the program. The makerspaces also serve as project spaces for inspiration, collaboration and project showcases. Our makerspaces are the heart and soul of ISD where students make their dreams a reality. We encourage learning-by-doing and cultivate teamwork by providing an exciting and collaborative setting.
