All are equipped to the highest standards with advanced instrumentation available. The Geotechnical Centrifuge Facility is equipped with a 400 g-ton beam centrifuge with hydraulic biaxial shaking table and a 4-axis robotic manipulator, as well as a newly installed 870 g-ton drum centrifuge. The Aerodynamics and Acoustics Facility houses an advanced 2.5m x 2m low-noise wind tunnel. Master of Philosophy in Civil Engineering The MPhil program focuses on strengthening students’ knowledge in certain areas of Civil Engineering and exposing them to the issues involved in the conception, design, construction, maintenance, and use of structures and facilities. A candidate for an MPhil degree is expected to demonstrate knowledge in the discipline and to synthesize and create new knowledge, making a contribution to the field. Postgraduate Diploma/ Master of Science in Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management The PGD/MSc programs offer advanced civil engineering and management courses for engineering graduates who wish to strengthen their knowledge and prepare for advanced engineering practices with management responsibilities. The programs are designed with flexibility to meet the students’ needs at different stages of their careers. Students are given the option to complete a concentration in a selected sub-area, or cover a broad base by taking courses from different areas. Another essential component of the MSc program is an independent project supervised by a faculty member. This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). To hold accredited qualifications for CEng registration, candidates must also hold a Bachelor (Hons) degree that has been accredited as partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). See www.jbm.org.uk for more information. seng.hkust.edu.hk/msc/ciem Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering The PhD program aims at developing the skills needed to identify issues related to Civil Engineering and the ability to formulate and propose solutions to a problem in an independent manner. A candidate for a PhD degree is expected to demonstrate mastery of knowledge in the chosen discipline and to synthesize and create new knowledge, making an original and substantial contribution to the discipline.
