School of Humanities and Social Science Division of Social Science 195 China/Africa Links Project Supervisor: SAUTMAN, Barry / SOSC Student: TSOI, Shu Yiu / GCS-IHSS Course: UROP1100, Summer This report is mainly to discuss the residential pattern of Chinese in Africa and refer to the situation in Europe to determine whether the former pattern is unique. Due to the limited amount of previous literature in this field, this study also referred to the daily sharing blogs of Chinese and obtained the required information through online interviews. From all the obtained materials, it is found that the settlement of Chinse is highly related to the nature of their work. Besides, Chinese people tend to accumulate in specific cities, and they are distributed in all parts of the country, which can be concluded as “small concentration, large dispersion”. Understanding Experiences in Historical Environments Supervisor: TAM, Kim-Pong / SOSC Student: CUI, Boyi / EVMT Course: UROP1100, Fall UROP2100, Spring This study investigates visitors’ intention to revisit Yim Tin Tsai. It is a historical site in the process of revitalization. Return visitors are essential for its maintenance and development. Based on a literature review on revisit intention, the researchers found that the intentions could be put into two categories: seeking novelty and reliving nostalgia. Through a survey and interviews, this study found that visitors intended to seek novelty in Tim Tin Tsai on their revisit. The results indicate that sometimes innovation is preferable to the authenticity of a historical destination. The management team may consider holding innovative activities and improving facilities to attract visitors to revisit the site. Understanding Experiences in Historical Environments Supervisor: TAM, Kim-Pong / SOSC Student: MA, Qiyao / GCS Course: UROP1000, Summer Within this program, I started my research on "Understanding Experiences in Historical Environments." After consulted previous literatures, I comprehend the significant influence of heritage on people, and decided to put my focus on museum research, which is one of the most common heritage often visited by people. For many years, museums have played a significant role on cultural identity and history education, so many studied has been conducted by previous professionals. However, the focus on museum is primarily on exhibitions, museums shops are often ignored. But they actually affect the visitors a lot more than we thought. Therefore, in my upcoming research, I will focus on the cultural, educational and economic impacts of museum shops in Hong Kong.
