Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Division of Environment and Sustainability 207 Quantifying Molecular Tracers in Ambient Particulate Matter Supervisor: YU, Jianzhen / ENVR Student: SUN, Zihan / EVMT Course: UROP1000, Summer Measuring the various components of particulate matter (PM) is extremely useful in better understanding atmospheric aerosols. Thermal desorption aerosol gas chromatography (TAG) is a powerful technology for online chemical analysis of organic materials in fine PM in the atmosphere. This study utilized a TAG to collect air samples and process the resulting chromatograms, integrating them to obtain peak areas of multiple compounds in the air. The sampling flow of TAG was also counted over a period of time using a Python program and Excel. Based on these data, I have worked on quantifying the various particle levels to understand the numerous origins of PM and the impact of PM on human health.
