Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Division of Integrative Systems and Design 208 Division of Integrative Systems and Design Developing Assistive Technology for the Visually Impaired Supervisor: BRAUD, Tristan Camille / ISD Student: FISILO, William Arvin / ISD Course: UROP2100, Spring The UROP2100I project aimed to improve the 3D render model and integrate a NERF model to enhance object visibility for detection. Different video rendering techniques, including instantNGP, 3D capture, and 3D record, were evaluated, and their optimal conditions were tested. The results identified the most suitable approach for the project's objectives. The goal is to utilize the best model for object detection and matching, allowing visually impaired individuals to detect objects in their surroundings using a live camera with the object detection model. The proposed system can significantly improve the quality of life for visually impaired individuals by providing them with a reliable tool for detecting and identifying objects in their environment. Emotion Sensing in VR Gaming Supervisor: BRAUD, Tristan Camille / ISD Student: LUK, Wang Lok / ISD Course: UROP1000, Summer Virtual reality (VR) gaming has witnessed significant growth in recent years, leading to an increasing demand for more immersive modes of interaction beyond conventional methods like head tracking, controllers, and hand tracking. To cater to this demand, researchers and developers have explored novel concepts, such as emotion sensing, to enhance the VR gaming experience. This research project aims to experiment with creating a music-based VR game using immersive interaction technologies, including full-body tracking, haptic feedback, eye tracking, and voice recognition. By predicting players' emotions in response to in-game stimuli, we seek to uncover valuable insights into the impact of immersive interactions on emotional experiences in virtual reality. Through this investigation, we aim to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in emotion sensing in VR gaming and pave the way for more emotionally captivating and interactive VR gaming experiences in the future.
