UROP Proceedings 2022-23

Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Division of Integrative Systems and Design 209 Design of Smart Building Integrated Photovoltaic Systems Supervisor: XIANG, Changying / ISD Student: CHANG, Wing Lum / SENG Course: UROP1100, Summer This progress report details the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) focused on the design of Smart Building Integrated Photovoltaic systems (BIPV). The program provided students with knowledge on color and light theories, NCS color measurement on campus and Mass Transit Railway (MTR) stations, as well as conducting surveys to evaluate user color preferences. In this program, we gained an understanding of the importance of color in architecture and how it can be used to enhance the aesthetic appeal of a building while promoting sustainability with use of sustainable technology. The program consisted of a background study, hands-on measurement of NCS color, survey to collect data and will also comprise of prototype-making and design. The research has the potential to inform future BIPV system designs, making them more visually appealing while remaining energy efficient. This program equipped students with valuable skills and a rewarding taster research experience.
