For policymakers and higher education institutes alike, blockchain-based applications in the arena of education gained significant traction. Following from insights drawn from research in the previous semester and recent developments in the field, this progress report focuses on the potential of blockchain-based certification from a public policy perspective. Furthermore, it offers a critical analysis of existing cases of implementation to understand the barriers and potential in the wide-scale adoption of blockchain-based certification. A thorough examination of existing information and research reveals that, for policymakers, an attitude of cautious optimism is the need of the hour.
