Valves which are oblique, sub-conical, and asymmetrical, display undulated outline from girdle view. A long and slightly curved spine is formed at the valve apex, tapering needle-shaped towards the distal part. The basal part of spine is hollow, and the lateral wings are not evident. Frustules are thin and girdle is composed of 4 to 5 rows of scale-like intercalary bands.
