Cells are solitary or form short chains. Valves are roughly subconical and tapering to a proboscis, tube-like structure with round blunt ends. The tubular structure at both ends of the cell obliques in the same direction. 形態 細胞呈細長圓柱形，細胞壁較薄。細胞獨立生活或形成短鏈。殼面凸起呈近似圓錐 形，頂端收縮成象鼻形管狀突起，末端鈍圓。細胞兩端的管狀結構向同一方向傾斜。 Ecology and distribution Proboscia alata is a neritic cosmopolitan species with a broad temperature range. 生態與分佈 翼鼻狀藻主要分佈在沿岸的廣溫性物種。 Size Length (pervalvar axis): up to 300-500 μm (Cupp, 1943; Hendey, 1964; Sykes, 1981).
