Cells are asymmetrical, rounded anteriorly, pointed posteriorly and broadest in the middle. A robust, short, and winged apical spine arises from the anterior of the cell. It was reported that this species can tolerate extremely high salinity in hypersaline salt lagoons at salinity of more than 90 (Steidinger & Tangen, 1997). Prorocentrum micans is a bloom forming species.
