CONNECTING WITH YOUR STUDENTS It is always helpful to foster a friendly and welcoming classroom environment with more personal connection. In fact, social support and a sense of belonging are effective buffer against distress and self-harm. For instance, knowing the students’ names, connecting with the students, offering timely and frequent care to students, establishing bonding with them. Students always shared that they had been more motivated to attend classes and do well on their assignments when the professors or instructors knew or recognized them. You can definitely make a significant positive influence on their learning experience. When there is too much stress and left unchecked, symptoms will worsen. Functioning would be impaired. Professional medical and psychological intervention is needed if a person break down and suffer burnout. To promote mental health and avoid the worst to come, we can all pay attention to people around us and alert them if they are manifesting distress symptoms. Emotional support, diet, sleep, social engagement, healthy lifestyle, positive thinking, gratitude, relaxation and exercise can all contribute to alleviation of stress to restore a balance.
