UROP Proceeding 2023-24

Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Division of Integrative Systems and Design 215 LLM for Networking Supervisor: SONG Shenghui / ISD Student: XU Borong / CPEG Course: UROP 1100, Summer There are many different applications of Large Language Models (LLMs for short) nowadays, this report focuses on an attempt of using LLMs to play a classical Chinese poker game, named Doudizhu (We will call it “Chinese Poker” in this report). To this end, we will first compare different approaches of using AI programs to play the game and indentify the advantages of ultilizing LLMs. Furthermore, the report will introduce the computer gaming program and the settings of the AI, explaining how the game data are transferred between programs, and how the LLM will react based on the information provided. Finally, we will also introduce the future plan of this project. Design of Smart Building Integrated Photovoltaic Systems Supervisor: XIANG Changying / ISD Student: CHANG Wing Lum / CIEV Course: UROP 2100, Fall The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to participate in research processes and even the publication of research papers. In this semester, Fall of 2023-24, I continued to take part in the project “Smart Building Integrated Photovoltaic systems (BIPV)” under Professor Xiang Changying, which I have started working on in the 2022-23 Summer Semester. This project is focused on the application of colour theories, using the Natural Colour System (NCS) as a framework, to shape spatial identity and attractiveness in public areas. The areas in concern were the HKUST Campus and Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway (MTR) stations. However, since I have mainly participated in the MTR section, this progress report will document research progress of this section only. The MTR colour design study is expected to help future potential application of color thinfilm photovoltaic materials in MTR building interiors. Human-centric Interior System Design for Future Vehicles Supervisor: XIANG Changying / ISD Student: CHEN Jiayu / ISD Course: UROP 1000, Summer Along with the development of the economy and technology, people’s travel demand is increasing. Safety is the most significant part of the travel. To ensure the passengers’ safety, and reduce the human error accident, we are proposed to make a special chair, which can monitor the state of the drivers, especially pilots. By integrating a bending-loss-based optical sensor into the seat of the chair, we can have data on the users’ heart rate, respiration rate, and heart rate variability. Moreover, we place the millimeter-wave radar in front of the drivers, and we also can get the data of the users. From the data we collect, we can analyze the physical and mental states of the drivers.
