As covered in precursory reports, one such application of datadriven innovation is blockchain-based academic certification and the reasons behind the need for such an application can be boiled down to trust. This progress report surmises relevant findings for a paper underway—chiefly, that while the need for blockchain-based academic certification is evident, the road ahead is precarious without addressing the primary reason for this innovation. Specifically, this report illustrates how this challenge of trust could be addressed through standardization by analyzing different cases of how standards have been adopted—both general academic standards and those of blockchainbased certification.
