The modifications on the lead compounds offer avenues for enhancement of chemical and pharmacological properties. This study focuses on the design and synthesis of the hexacyclic xanthone core of a family member, and an analog of a complex hexacyclic xanthone natural product. Despite sharing a similar structural backbone, they display distinct properties when subjected to the same reaction conditions, thus necessitating efforts in refining the synthetic routes. This work highlights the employment of protection and deprotection strategies, the optimization and screening of reaction conditions to improve the product yield and purity, as well as providing suggestions to the further development of the remaining member of the family.
