32 The Master of Public Management program and the Master of Public Policy programs at the Division of Public Policy, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, recently organized an enriching study trip to Tokyo. Led by Professor Donald Low, the trip was designed to provide students with firsthand experiences of Japan’s public policy landscape. Kicking off with a welcome dinner at Wakikuni Yansandon Ueno, the group then visited prestigious institutions such as Tokyo University Graduate School of Public Policy and the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies. Engaging discussions with experts like Professor Nami Aoki explored Japan’s ongoing challenges, including its demographic shifts and economic strategies. Students enjoyed a walking tour of Ueno, led by Professor Inoue, which highlighted local governance in action. The trip also featured visits to the Asian Development Bank and a session on Japan’s health system, led by Professor Naito. Overall, the study trip fostered valuable insights and strengthened the bond among students, enhancing their understanding of global public management practices.
