Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Division of Environment and Sustainability 245 Green Finance and Sustainable Investments Supervisor: ZHOU Zoey Yiyuan / ENVR Student: WU Xuefei / MAEC Course: UROP 1000, Summer This report details progress in a two-phase study on ESG reporting and adaptation finance in China. Phase 1 completed data collection for 45 firms (2023–2024), including: (i) exhaustive verification of ESG metrics in Excel; (ii) systematic download of 100+ ESG reports and audit reports; (iii) extraction of embedded audit documents using PDF-splitting tools; and (iv) standardized file organization. Phase 2, now underway, investigates China’s green taxonomy implementation for adaptation/resilience projects. Initial analysis covers four dimensions: high-level goals (e.g., climate-proofing infrastructure), scope (region-specific hazards), target metrics (physical risk reduction vs. insurance-linked thresholds), and output requirements (granular disclosure protocols). Findings will inform policy gaps in climate adaptation finance. Green Finance and Sustainable Investments Supervisor: ZHOU Zoey Yiyuan / ENVR Student: ZHANG Jitong / MATH-STAT Course: UROP 1100, Spring This report documents my research process in the UROP project Green Finance and Sustainable Investment. The project began with analyzing a summary statistics table showing patterns of green bond labeling anomalies globally. As I explored the data, I noticed irregular trends in Latin America—specifically, many bonds received green labels only after issuance. Intrigued, I dug deeper by examining company announcements and prospectuses. My investigation revealed that many of these bonds had environmentally friendly intentions from the beginning but were labeled green later due to timing or verification delays. This report highlights my data interpretation methods, document analysis, and key takeaways from tracing the story behind the numbers.
