UROP Proceeding 2024-25

Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Division of Integrative Systems and Design 258 Human-Centric Interior System Design for Future Vehicles Supervisor: XIANG Changying / ISD Student: FU Zihan / COMP ZHANG Xuanyu / ISD Course: UROP 1100, Fall With autonomous vehicles developing rapidly, the need for intelligent seats is growing. While the pressure on the passenger plays a vital role in the car ride, previous research has not fully addressed how to achieve a most comfortable pressure level. Our project aims to design a car seat prototype that can change the structure of itself automatically by measuring the pressure on the passenger, which eventually reaches calculated pressure level. In this paper we will illustrate the background information, previous relevant findings, and technical description of our project. The implications of the research are significant for smart car seat development. Multi-Sensor and AI Embedded IoT Platform for R&D Lab Management Enhancement Supervisor: XIANG Changying / ISD Student: KU Wai Kwan / ELEC ZHANG Yue / ISD Course: UROP 1100, Spring Managing R&D laboratories is often a time-consuming and inefficient endeavor for both students and technicians, resulting in operational delays and safety concerns. To address these challenges, this UROP Project aims to develop a smart laboratory management system to automate key tracking and management functions. In this semester, our primary objective was to design a system that enhances lab safety awareness, monitors user access, and stores access records with multiple sensors and actuators interactions and data exchange via a centralized database. This report presents the development and integration of three core subsystems: the Lab Access System (Subsystem 1), the Human Motion Detection System (Subsystem 2), and the Cabinet Reminder System (Subsystem 3). By streamlining lab operations, this system seeks to improve efficiency, enhance user safety, and foster user accountability. ChatGPT for CAD and Graphics Design Supervisor: YEUNG Sai Kit / ISD Student: WOO Hiu Lam / ISD Course: UROP 1100, Fall The development of ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionize the way people realize their imagination without high learning cost of learn 3D modelling and the control of elements which requires ton of work if it is built in the traditional way. This Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) project at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) aimed to allow students to learn how to use prompts to generate code for 3D modeling and daily operations for creating scenes. I devoted time trying to understand the complete pre-existing code base and evaluation of the outgoing quality of all those different models. The project was meant to help create some working scene, upgrade the addon itself to make it more user-friendly. I am thankful to be able to pursue my interests while applying my academic knowledge. I am ready to take up the challenges and try to make the addon more interactive and reduce the cost of learning to let most users to achieve their imaginations.
