This past year has been both challenging and fruitful for Ashleigh. Intense competitions have led to severe injuries that have significantly impacted her training and sports performance. Despite these setbacks, she remains determined to give her total effort. Some unforgettable moments included competing in the 4x400m relay at the 1st Asian Relay Championships and the 9th Hong Kong Games, where she formed deep bonds with new friends whom she dearly misses. Although her injuries have hindered her performance, she is grateful for the opportunity to participate and experience the joy of team competitions. Ashleigh MA (GCS) Angela (first left), Tata (second left) and Andy (first right) participated in the HKUST Inter-University Public Policy Case Competition. They tackled the Hong Kong housing crisis by analysing transitional housing policies. Through rigorous research, brainstorming, and collaboration, they developed constructive policy recommendations. The competition enhanced their critical thinking and problem-solving skills while effectively strengthening their teamwork and communication abilities. They are grateful for the opportunity to engage with other talented participants and esteemed judges, which broadened their perspectives and exposed them to diverse approaches to public policy analysis and recommendations. Overall, this competition has been a rewarding and enlightening journey for them. Angela MUI (QSA), Tata HO (QSA), Andy YAU (GCS) Students’ Accomplishments Vennise (second right) embarked on a captivating wine-tasting journey in 2021 after attending a workshop organized by the HKUST alumni group. In 2022, she proudly represented HKUST and the Asia Team in the prestigious Left Bank Bordeaux Cup. The following year, she had the incredible opportunity to immerse herself in the world of wine at the Wine and Dine Festival in Hong Kong. As a passionate wine enthusiast, she took great pleasure in promoting exquisite wines from various Chinese regions and sharing fascinating insights about their unique characteristics. Vennise is grateful for the opportunities that have brought her immense joy in connecting with fellow wine enthusiasts and learning from experts in the field. Vennise KU (GCS) Kathy's journey over the past year can be summed up in three keywords: discovery, innovation, and growth. Driven by a passion for creating social impact, she has been working on addressing the existing challenges in tree plantations and events monitoring. Through in-depth site visits, Kathy and her team identified new ways to tackle the challenges faced by organizations and communities working on forest preservation. As a result, they developed a NatureTech Solution - an all-in-one tool for sustainable reforestation. Despite the inevitable ups and downs of entrepreneurship, Kathy has learned to embrace the process of discovery and iteration. She believes that each challenge presents an opportunity for growth, inspiring her team to refine their solution and expand its capabilities. With unwavering determination, Kathy remains committed to her vision of using technology to drive sustainable environmental impact on a global scale. Kathy NG (GCS)
