For the remainder of his high-school days, Bojun immersed himself in physics and calculus. He learned college-level calculus in just a week. After winning the first-class award in the Chinese Physics Olympiad, Bojun attended HKUST to gain a double bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics, followed by a master’s in physics. Dreaming of the ideal academic life, carrying out theoretical research like the prominent physicists of the 20th century, Bojun headed to Brown University in the US, to embark on a PhD in physics. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out the way he planned, and he struggled to find the rhythms and routines he was seeking. He decided to withdraw from the PhD.
