To Inspire. To Be Inspired. – 30 Stories on HKUST Faculty, Alumni and Students

At HKUST, Prof. Zhang is the director of Aerodynamics and Acoustics Facility, one of the university’s central research facilities. It is exceptional in its ability to gather numerical simulations from the supercomputer. Armed with this world-class facility, Prof. Zhang’s dynamic faculty continue to produce research with far-reaching impacts. Prof. Zhang and his team have conducted a series of tests for the Hong Kong track cycling, triathlon and windsurfing teams to enhance their elite training outcomes and further improve their competitiveness. For elite Prof. Zhang’s immense contributions to the aerodynamic technology of competitive cycling are the result of his long-time research effort. Prof. Zhang’s key research is focused on aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, and he is an authority in the area of aircraft noise, including both airframe and propulsive unit noise. Before joining HKUST, he was the Director of the Airbus Aircraft Noise Technology Centre in Southampton, UK, the first university-based Airbus center in the world. I’m excited to see how we will continue to apply more research output in competitions and apply the technology to other sports.
