For those of you who receive this issue during the annual HKUST Information Day, I hope you realize a new dimension of studying science with us. Perhaps you may eventually contribute to the production of Science Focus, an experience shared by some of our previous student editors. I am sure you have no problem recalling the chemical formula of calcium carbonate. But beyond the chemistry textbook, we bring you two articles in which calcium carbonate is considered in different ways. You will find out how biocement and eggshell are remotely linked.
