Professor Alex Wai is the President and Vice-Chancellor and Chair Professor of Photonics of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Over the years, he has spared no effort in education, academia and research. He is committed to pioneering innovation and technology and translational research as well as making contributions to the development of Hong Kong, the Nation and the world. Professor Wai received a bachelor’s degree, majoring in Physics, from The University of Hong Kong in 1981, followed by a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in Physics from the University of Maryland, College Park in the US in 1985 and 1988 respectively. With academic interests in the field of optical fibre communications, Professor Wai has a rich array of impactful and patented research achievements to his name. He has been elected as a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA), a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and a Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering (HKAE).
