Growing Together
It was exactly a year ago, at the end of
summer, that I began this journey at
UST working as a Student Counselor.
Along this journey, not only have I witnessed growth within all
the students I have met, but I’ve also experienced my own
growth tremendously as well.
Throughout this year at UST, I met students from all walks of
life. I remembered every youthful faces that walked into my
office. They usually carried a sense of sadness or a touch of
confusion on the outside. Problems and tangled situations often
obscured their visions. Under these heavy burdens, they
sometimes turned into self-blame, guilt, anger, and disap-
pointment towards themselves or others. However, they hadn’t
noticed how vibrant and beautiful they are underneath their
outer armor. We have often forgotten how many roles we are
playing as a university student. We are someone’s daughter or
son. We are someone’s boyfriend or girlfriend. We are also
someone’s brothers or sisters, grandchildren, friends, col-
leagues, and more. It is simply admirable that we strive to play
each and every one of these roles to the best we can. Thus,
even when many of us are surrounded by unresolved conflicts
and issues, don’t forget the vibrant energy latent underneath.
This energy is usually hidden somewhere. Just for you to dig out
at your seemingly darkest moments.
