With an ever-evolving society, it is important to
develop solid interests that withstand the changing
market. But the course of an undergraduate
degree is not directly related to job searching upon
graduation. Unless one goes into research or a
specific profession, most jobs require skills that are
transferrable and obtainable from a wide range of
majors.

questioning, whether it is through the course of
university or after graduation. Questions such as
“why” and “so what” were the beginnings to the
advancement of technology and inventions, since
recorded history. “For how would sunblock have
been invented if no one questioned the effects of
Electromagnetic radiation?” Ma asked.
Today’s competitive society calls for a creative
and innovative generation. Achievements and
success arrive in diverse forms and from eclectic
subjects. University is not an instant ticket to a
career, or some sort of mandatory rite of passage.
It is a precious opportunity to develop curiosity,
gather knowledge, make mistakes and grow, but
never blindly and always with intention. Pick what
you love and see it through.

香港科技園行政總裁
馬先生的個人經歷正正印證這一點。雖然大學畢業取的
是會計學位和工商管理碩士，但他的興趣始終離不開科學和
科技。經過了30年在多間電訊業公司任職高級行政職務的
經驗，他仍然藉著和同袍、行家、大學教授交流討論和閱讀
相關書籍來吸收知識。堅守自己的興趣之餘也取得了非凡成
就，最近被委任為香港科技園公司的行政總裁，管理著450
間公司，當中300間是大型國際企業和中小企，150間正接
受創業培育。
隨著社會不斷發展，建立明確的目標和興趣並能抵禦市
場變化顯得十分重要。惟大學本科學位的課程與尋找工作並
沒有直接關係，除非是做研究或某種特定職業，否則不同專
業的學生都能學習到大部份工作所需的技能。
馬先生亦勉勵學生無論在大學時期還是畢業後也要不
恥下問。「為何」和「那麼又會怎樣」就是科技和發明的源
起，馬先生問道:「如果沒有人去了解電磁輻射對皮膚的影
響，又怎麼會發明防曬霜呢?」
現今這個競爭激烈的社會著重創造性和創新，不再拘泥
於個別行業，不同的行業都能取得成就。大學不是踏入職場
的門票，也不是強制的成年儀式，而是一個寶貴的機會去建
立好奇心、吸收知識、並從錯誤中成長，不是盲目追求而是抱
持著目標。就在今天選擇你所喜愛的路並向著目標前進吧!

Established in 2001, HKSTPC oversees three branches
including applied research located at Pak Shek
Kok Science Park, scientific design at InnoCentre,
and production at Tai Po, Tseung Kwan O and
