As machines take on work once thought to require human judgment, the task before university leaders grows larger than any technology: to define what a graduate must be able to do that no machine can, and to turn intelligence into invention that serves people. Pandemics, aging populations, a warming climate: no government, company, or country solves these alone, and universities hold much of the knowledge and convening power the work requires.
