Ask a group of secondary school students about their future goal, and “getting into
uni” would likely be a popular response. But what would happen once they get that out
of the way? What should their next goal be? Peter Chen, a Year 3 HKUST Economics
and Finance student from Wuhu, Anhui Province, found his answer at the Hong Kong
University of Science and Technology. His university years were spent grasping the web
of opportunities offered by the school: he participated in an undergraduate research
program, worked as a professor’s research assistant, attended an overseas exchange
program, did internships, and much more. Collectively, these experiences laid the
foundation for Peter to pursue, and one day accomplish, his goal.
