Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Before he took the role of President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, he used to be the Vice President of Tsinghua University. His main research area is intelligent microsystem technology and its application, and he was awarded 3 second prizes of the National Award for Technological Invention as well as 2 second prizes of the National Award for Science and Technology Progress. In addition to national awards, he also received more than 10 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards and over 90 authorized national invention patents. He has also published more than 400 SCI/EI papers, four monographs and two translated works.
