Professor Zhang Rong, a fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, now serves as the chairman of Xiamen University Council. He has received the following honorary titles such as Yangtze River Distinguished Professor, winner of the National Outstanding Youth Foundation Award, leading talent in science and technology of the Ten Thousand Talents Program, and Chief Scientist of “973 Plan” Project. He also leads the National Natural Sciences Foundation Innovation Group and the Ministry of Science and Technology Key Areas Innovation Team. Prof. Zhang’s research focuses on semiconductor materials, devices and physics. He has served as Executive Vice President for Research at Korea University since March 2025. He earned his B.S. (1985), M.S. (1987), and Ph.D. (1991) in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Korea University. Prior to joining Korea University in 1996, he was a faculty member in the Department of Resources Engineering at Semyung University (1992-1996).
