Guangzhou
Launch
A large number of alumni in Guangzhou were delighted to meet
each other at a lunch gathering on a March weekend. In view of
the growing alumni force, the
Guangzhou Chapter
, under
the presidency of James Meng,
was established in April to
cultivate closer bonds among
USTers. Stay tuned to hear
about upcoming events!
Packed Schedule
in Shanghai
The past few months have been particularly hectic for the
Shanghai
Chapter
. The first alumni forum, which aimed to enhance alumni’s
understanding of the Shanghai Pilot Free-Trade Zone, received an
overwhelming response. A spring yum cha gathering was held in March
to celebrate the Chinese New Year. In April, Dr Eden Woon and a group of
doctoral graduates met at a special luncheon hosted by Mr Chen Jingwei,
Deputy Director of the CPPCC Economic Committee, Vice-president of All-
China Federation of Industry & Commerce and President of
the Hong Kong China Chamber of Commerce. He has been giving strong support to the higher-education sector.
Alumni in Shanghai are invited to participate in community services in collaboration with the Shanghai Tenth People’s
Hospital. Please write to the Chapter and specify “voluntary services” via WeChat.
Cosmopolitan
Gatherings
Over the past months, the
Beijing Chapter
has connected to a
growing group of alumni through a series of dinner gatherings and
sports activities. Beijing is a cosmopolitan city housing many alumni
of different backgrounds, and there is plenty of interest among alumni
to renew their ties. Come and join them if you are in Beijing now!
The bonds among alumni in Shenzhen have been further
tightened through a wide array of programs organized by the
Shenzhen Chapter
. In collaboration with alumni company
Hihex, the lunch gathering in December attracted many
alumni with engineering and business backgrounds. It was
followed by a visit to DJI, a developer and manufacturer of
unmanned automated helicopters. A group of keen runners
joined the Dapeng New Year Marathon on January 1 and all
completed the race. The special forum on e-commerce in
March presented to alumni the latest trends in the industry,
which brought about fruitful discussions among participants.
In April, a sharing session was held whereby alumni got
the opportunity to review and make suggestions regarding
forthcoming programs.
A special gathering for electronic and computer
engineering postgraduate alumni was hosted by ECE in
Shenzhen in February. Professor Ross Murch, Head of
Department, and faculties extended a warm welcome to them.
Strengthening
Ties
A team of eight
alumni sailors joined
the annual Round
Hainan International
Regatta in March,
one of the most
challenging offshore
sailing races in China. After the fierce three-day racing off
Hainan
,
the team achieved seventh place in the Soto 27 division.
