Event Roundup
Win-Win
Program
The Mentorship Program of the
Computer Science &
Engineering Alumni Association
has achieved a win-
win situation for both mentees and mentors. Around 40
students were admitted to the program this year.
On March 7, the Department Head Prof Qiang Yang, mentors and mentees congregated
at the 2014 closing-cum-2015 kick-off ceremony on campus. It was followed by a group
discussion during which they worked out their one-year goal.
Career
Pointers
To prepare students of Industrial Engineering and Logistics
Management (IELM) embarking on their careers in the logistics
industry, visits to western Shenzhen terminal and bonded
logistics parks, and DHL’s logistics warehouse in Yantian
and Yantian Container International Terminal were organized by the
Master of Technology
Management Alumni Association
in November 2014 and January 2015 respectively.
IELM students are also benefitting from the IELM Mentorship Program, which sees a strong
rapport between alumni mentors and mentees.
Life
Lessons
Students from Division of Life
Science learnt a lot from three
passionate alumni of different
professions, who shared both their
career and personal experience
at the session organized by
the
Biochemistry Alumni
Association
in April. At its
AGM on May 9, the executive
committee reported on the past
year’s programs and
revealed upcoming
programs to its
members. Stay tuned!
Gala
Occasion
Over 100 IELM faculty members, staff,
alumni and students congregated at
the Alumni Dinner-cum-Annual Gala
2015 of the
Department of Industrial
Engineering & Logistics Management
on campus on March 7. This year, they
were pleased to have Prof Chi Ying Tsui,
Associate Dean of Engineering, join them
on this special occasion.
New
Talents
The
MBA Alumni Toastmasters
Club
continues its tradition of
pursuing excellence in attracting
and nurturing talents. Jasper Chung,
2004 BBA (FINA), recently clinched
the championship in the K3 division
contest. Apart from enhancing
speaking techniques, the club also
aims to sharpen professional skills
such as leadership and presentation
through the workshop series hosted
by seasoned speakers.
One of the highlights of 2015 will be
the demo meeting where
top speakers are invited
to share valuable tips on
public speaking.
In mid-January, young alumni came together at the
Young Alumni Happy Hour
held
at the HKUST Business School Central and spent a relaxing evening with their peers and
Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Dr Eden Woon. Jointly organized with the
HKUSTAA, this has become a highlight annual program for recent classes of graduates.
