Collaborations
Prof Chan was greeted by a group of
alumni at King Abdullah University of
Science and Technology (KAUST) in
Saudi
Arabia
last December while on a business
trip to the kingdom. The University has
been establishing long-term collaboration
with KAUST for several years now.

Cocktails
On April 15, the first Alumination
of the year was held by the School
of Business and Management to strengthen the
alumni community in
Singapore
. Over 50 alumni
enjoyed a relaxed and fun evening at the cocktail event with old and new friends, and
received updates from Associate Dean and MBA Program Director Sean Ferguson.

A group of School of Business and
Management alumni and students
based in
Switzerland
enjoyed a ski
weekend in early March. This core
group, who share a love of skiing,
meets regularly. Join them next
time for a spectacular vacation!
Closer
Relations
A dinner reunion was hosted by the
Beijing Chapter
in early April to welcome a
delegation from the HKUST Civil and Environmental Engineering Postgraduates and
Scholars Association. Led by President Ming Haiyan, the group took this opportunity
to explore future collaborations with the chapter, so as to pull alumni closer together.
Club House
Opening
Along with several alumni associations and groups, the
Shenzhen Chapter
took part in the Chinese New Year feast
of the HKUST Shenzhen Institute-cum-Opening Ceremony
of the Mainland Alumni Club House. Its Director Prof Ricky
Lee introduced the various facilities open to alumni. Both the
Institute and the Club House serve as facilitators to tighten
ties among alumni in the mainland.
Other programs included a tour to
Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone and participation in the
charity walk organized by the Shenzhen Mangrove Wetlands Conservation Foundation.

Insights
The last few months have been particularly eventful for the
Shanghai Chapter
. Alumni
guest speakers Wan Guohua, Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Lo Wing
Keung, founder of “Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf”, the animated Chinese TV series,
shared their insights at the distinguished alumni gathering. At another event, alumni
made the most of the good weather in Hangzhou by taking part in a trek around the
famous West Lake. Music lovers among alumni got the chance to relax in
good company, with a day devoted to singing and playing erhu, guitar and
piano. Coming up soon will be the table tennis match against counterparts
at Hong Kong universities and music lessons for underprivileged children.
